Terrazzo serves as a durable medium for weaving inclusivity and cultural narratives into campus life. The handcrafted 14-color composition reflects the Anishinaabe Tribe’s ties to land, history, and spirituality. In the recessed amphitheater floor are two swimming otters inspired by the painting, The Twins, by local tribal artist Karen Savage-Blue. Another section follows the St. Louis River Estuary and marks key regional sites. Braided sweetgrass, a traditional resource for ceremony, basketmaking, and medicine, is overlaid with lunar phases to symbolize the tribe’s seasonal lifestyle.
