Salt Lake City International Airport

Terrazzo serves as both a defining architectural element and a high-performance finish for one of the largest airport expansions in the US. Six natural tones create a neutral yet refined field throughout the terminal. The 1,175-foot blue river tunnel, an immersive environment with lighting, art, and a moving walkway, is inspired by local waterways. At the heart of the project is the 1961 world map in cementitious terrazzo, salvaged from the original terminal in 75 sections. Reassembled and restored in place, the map reads as new. The installation anchors contemporary design while celebrating the terminal’s historic character.
