Broward County Convention Center

The pre-function spaces in this convention center unfold as an immersive journey. Commissioned through the county public art program, the layered composition in terrazzo—a collage of images and concepts combining bold gesture with delicate nuance—unites the spaces in a celebration of the region’s vibrant coastal character.

The design structures circulation and anchors the architecture while celebrating detail at every scale. Flora and Fauna draws on Caribbean-inspired colors and forms, merging marine life, nautical cues, and the rhythms of the South Florida coastline. Shoals of fish, coral formations, tidal patterns, and refracted light animate the floors, drawing visitors through the space and rewarding close observation. Sunrise, sunset, and moon motifs mark the regenerative cycles of time and tides, while a globe centered on Fort Lauderdale provides geographic grounding, and a compass motif subtly directs circulation.

Plinths carry the radial floor patterns vertically, maintaining continuity between planes and extending the visual flow. Together, these elements create a distinctive local identity and anchor the venue firmly in its South Florida environment.
