Indiana University, Luddy Hall

This cascading monumental staircase, alternating with integrated wooden bench seating and adjacent focus booths, warmly invites students to gather and study. To give the stairs the appearance of a fully poured-in-place system while expediting the process, all vertical elements of the stairs were pre-cast offsite and installed in a pre-grout condition,. All horizontal elements were then poured-in-place, followed by grouting and grinding, Pre-made expansion joints and abrasive aggregate for the stair nosing also helped expedite the process. The stairs were designed for safety compliance.
