Founded in 1862, this museum ranks among the nation’s oldest public art institutions. Its recent expansion adds over 50,000 square feet. A monolithic, durable terrazzo floor now connects the historic building to the new wings. In the Tree of Life Courtyard, a micro-blend terrazzo overlays a radiant-heated slab. Across four stories linked by a spiral staircase, the terrazzo shifts in color and aggregate size, guiding visitors upward from warm terracotta to neutral gray, and culminating in Palladiana-style terrazzo on the terrace. The gradient enhances spatial legibility and enriches the aesthetic experience throughout the museum.
