Each element contributes to a cohesive interior design in this LEED-certified, mixed-use lobby space in the Fulton Market neighborhood. The distinctive matte-finish Palladiana terrazzo installation complements the glass storefronts and brick walls. Creatively elevating the space are 12,889 marble inserts placed in an 800-square-foot grid, soldier style, and mounted in a monochromatic charcoal-pigmented terrazzo frame. Each three-by-five-inch insert was individually set by hand. The sophisticated pattern evokes the space-framing effect of a series of well-placed area rugs, with considerably lower maintenance demands than carpet.
