Philip Simmons Elementary & Middle School

This creative epoxy thin-set terrazzo installation in ten colors honors this new school’s namesake, Philip Simmons, a celebrated local artist and blacksmith. The floor recreates ten different decorative ironwork designs. The intricate compositions were water jet-cut and outlined in black plastic divider strips to best capture the look of iron. The black plastic strips are extended to the two water-jet-cut logo medallions. Fine aluminum divider strips elsewhere in the relatively simple floor patterns keep the focus on the ironwork designs, which perform as way-finders within the school.
