Restoration brought new life to this long-vacant 106-year-old historic landmark and its original terrazzo. To create an old-world look for the former hospital’s conversion to a 210-room Hyatt Hotel, the contractor preserved classic details and restored to a matte finish the original terrazzo tiles, which were installed without divider strips. The existing precast terrazzo cement systems on eight floors, each with its own color palette and design dynamics, were painstakingly matched. Epoxy terrazzo was poured in place where needed, with simulated grout joints cut to replicate the original terrazzo tiles.
