This terrazzo project was part of a $160 million renovation and expansion of an 1898 Classical Revival style building. The aging National Landmark was transformed into a top-tier, 600–student facility, with a contemporary design and materials. In the four-story atrium, academic and performance venues revolve around the suspended oval of the 800-seat Duke Ellington Theater. On the ground floor, the spectacular stylized image of Ellington is formed of poured-in-place epoxy terrazzo and laser-cut aluminum divider strips.
