Kankakee Welcome Center

Travelers find a welcome here that celebrates the state’s history, culture, industries, and environment. Flowing terrazzo curves trace the Kankakee River and Lake Michigan; deep navy-blue terrazzo, blended with mirror chips and black-and-white marble, captures water of varying depths, while river rock set in clear epoxy marks shallow banks. A rustic finish along the edges evokes rolling dunes. Together with roof forms that reinterpret wind turbine blades, terrazzo gives the interior a dynamic, textured character that guides visitors through the space.
