Winning Form: Katara Twin Towers Score on the World Stage

Development scores across design, luxury, and global significance.

At Katara Twin Towers, terrazzo serves as a defining architectural element with restrained sophistication, establishing continuity and rhythm throughout the interior. Semi-circular motifs sweep through public and spa areas to echo the towers’ double-crescent silhouette and give the spaces a measured sense of motion. Executed in micro-blend terrazzo using a custom metal stencil technique with a consistent 0.2-inch line thickness, the pattern was crafted without divider strips or trims.

Reception desks, each roughly 20 feet long, extend the geometry into sculptural form. Finished to read as jointless volumes, they carry the same clarity and discipline as the floor design, reinforcing a unified architectural language.Rising 32 stories, the twin towers house the Raffles Doha and Fairmont Doha luxury hotels with more than 700 rooms, plus residences, offices, restaurants, theaters, and leisure destinations. A man-made floating island, accessed by bridge, layers in gardens and water-sport amenities to broaden the guest experience.

“Pursuing the goal to create the hospitality icon of the 21st century set by Katara Hospitality, we used our best resources to deliver a design that will be recognized across the globe and identified as a symbol of Qatar,” stated architect Kling Consult.

Katara Hospitality described the towers as “Qatar’s 21st-century hospitality icon, intertwined with the nation’s heritage, translating the national seal and its traditional scimitar swords into architecture.”

Created for the FIFA World Cup 2022 and recognized with the NTMA 2024 Judges’ Choice International Honor Award, the terrazzo installation depends on precision at every scale, giving the project a disciplined, unmistakable signature.
