Shared by office space and life sciences research labs, this contemporary lobby is inspired by the nearby coast, with its pine trees, towering cliffs, and sandstone canyons. A restrained terrazzo design, including a cantilevered staircase in precast terrazzo, complements the striking two-story sedimentary wall that anchors the lobby. The floor was designed to represent a line in the sand between cliffs and the ocean; a sediment-flecked white micro-blend represents untouched sand, contrasting with sand darkened by the ocean waters. The sedimentary wall and floor extend the concept to the building’s exterior.
